HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The man accused of murdering a Rice University cook and mother last month was denied bond.

Jorian Treyvon Peters, 22, has been charged with murdering 21-year-old Essence DeRouen on March 19.

Investigators say Peters and DeRouen were at Club Panda in north Houston. After the club closed, DeRouen sat in her car and waited for traffic to clear out, police said.

Peters allegedly fired multiple shots into her vehicle and drove off.

Police don't believe he intended to target DeRouen.

"We just want to thank God that justice has been served for her," said DeRouen's aunt, Breanna Vergin. "She did not deserve this."

DeRouen is survived by a 6-year-old son.
