SAN BERNARDINO, CA -- A suspect who barricaded himself in a San Bernardino, California home after firing at a group of children surrounding an ice cream truck was taken into custody Sunday night after a nearly eight-hour standoff.

Police responded to a shots fired call around 3:30pm. No one was injured, but neighborhood children scrambled to safety.

SWAT was called to the scene to assist. The suspect, who allegedly has a history with San Bernardino police, retreated to his house and later fired three rounds at an armored vehicle. All officers were said to be OK, according to San Bernardino police.

A few dozen homes in the neighborhood were evacuated as SWAT officers tried to coax the man out of the house. Police even used tear gas to try and get the suspect to surrender.

The house caught fire around 11:15pm, and the suspect was taken into custody shortly after.

No further details were immediately available.
