GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- A Galveston man accused of sexually assaulting three children is in custody, and he won't be back on the streets any time soon.

Police arrested Luis Lara, 21, at 9pm Monday at Galveston's Pleasure Pier. Lara is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child and continuous sex abuse of a child under the age of 14.

The alleged incidents occurred between August 2013 and March 2014, according to Galveston County assistant district attorney Adam Poole. At least one of the assaults allegedly took place while the child was visiting Lara's Galveston home.

Two of the victims are under 17 years of age, and one victim is under 14 years of age. Poole says the victims are not related to Lara.

Lara's friends call his arrest totally unexpected.

"I know all the kids it happened to also," friend Leyyizon Lemons said.

While he trusted him, Lemons is also friends with the three victims who, together, went to police to report what was happening.

"One of the kids it happened to told me about it months ago, then he was like, just kidding. Then he told me he was too embarrassed to tell anybody," Lemons said.

Lara is being held in the Galveston County Jail on a combined $140,000 bond. He has an immigration hold as well.
