SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX (KTRK) -- An amazing survival story after a wooden boat, carrying six Cuban immigrants, washed ashore in Texas after drifting in the Gulf of Mexico for three weeks.

Border patrol picked up the men after a fisherman called 911. The men appeared to be in good health and investigators believe they were heading for Cancun, Mexico, but became lost.

The group is eligible for asylum in the US, as Cuba is a communist nation. South Padre Island is some 900 miles from Cuba.
