Campus carry debate forum to begin Monday
Lone Star College will be holding forums to talk about pending bills that would allow students to carry concealed guns on campus

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Lone Star College students and faculty will be debating the state's controversial campus carry bill, two years after a shooting rocked its north campus.

Pending legislation would allow those with concealed handgun licenses to carry concealed handguns on campuses of public higher education, except in hospital and public school buildings on those grounds.

Willie Wilson, whose grandson was shot two years ago, doesn't support the legislation.

"I don't carry one," Wilson said. "I don't find it necessary to carry one. There are already too many guns."

But some students say concealed weapons would make dark, sprawling campuses safer.

"Use it for good. Use it to bear arms," said student Celicia Reese. "Use it for your protection."

The debates are scheduled for Monday 7-9 PM at Lone Star's Kingwood campus and Tuesday 2-4 pm at Lone Star's CyFair campus.
