HPD on alert following Dallas shooting incident
The attack on Dallas police has the Houston police union asking for more officers on the street

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Houston Police Department tonight is sending a message to their officers and that is to be vigilant and watch their back. Houston police say there are no threats of an attack here but they say what's happened in Dallas certainly has them on alert.

Especially just days after one Houston police officer was shot in the back after a traffic stop on Wednesday, June 10. That officer is doing better tonight.

Houston police say we may begin to see an increased presence of officers at HPD headquarters and also City Hall. The Houston police officers union saying today they don't believe this kind of attack on law enforcement will stop anytime soon.

They said threats have been made on social media. And with the recent police shootings around the country that have made national news -- this is the boiling point.

"In the current state of affairs, please be careful and watch your back. Two people to a car when at all possible -- always try not to be put in a position where it's a no-win for you. Make sure you're not trapped somewhere where people will take advantage of that," said VP of Houston Police Officers Union Doug Griffith

The union is asking for more officers to be hired by the city. The Harris County sheriff's office also released a statement. They are now asking their deputies to also be vigilant in the coming days.
