Church in need of help after lockout and owed rent days before Thanksgiving holiday

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A church that helps feed the hungry is now asking for its own help.

Pastor Simon Omeke and his wife Felicia of Reconciliation Anglican Church say they've been locked out of their building on Bissonnet because they're behind in rent. Still, their ministries continue.

Tuesday night, they drove to ABC13 to explain their programs and to ask for help. Their SUV was packed full of food they collect for free from generous grocery stores and restaurants to then hand out to charities and the homeless. It's a program their church has had for 10 years and they don't want it to stop.

"We need help to provide the service we are doing," Pastor Omeke told Eyewitness News. "They know when you give, God gives back."

Omeke says it will take $6,000 or three months worth of rent to get them back into the building. It's a huge amount of money for the small, mostly poor congregation.

"We are looking for help. We are desperate," said Felicia Omeke.
