Juvenile suspect identified in Community Center arson case

DEER PARK, TX -- The cause of a fire reported at the Deer Park Community Center located at 610 block of E. San Augustine around 6:48 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 21) has been ruled to be arson.

Although the fire was at first thought to be accidental, evidence was found that showed the fire was set intentionally according to the Deer Park Fire Marshal's Office. The estimated damage of the fire was reported as approximately $150,000.

Investigators report the fire was started in room 12 of the eastern portion of the community center, which suffered the most extensive fire and smoke damage. Firefighters and police were able to safely evacuate the building and no injuries were reported.

Fire Investigators were able to identify an 11-year-old suspect, officials said. The name of the suspect was not released as the case involves a juvenile.
