Investigators: 'Affluenza' mom withdrew $30K before fleeing with son to Mexico

FORT WORTH, TX (KTRK) -- Tonya Couch, better known as the 'affluenza mom,' withdrew $30,000 from her bank before following her son Ethan into Mexico, authorities say.

New details are emerging about Tonya Couch's arrest stemming from accusations she helped her son leave the country to avoid a probation hearing that may have led to jail time.

During her first appearance before a judge Friday, Tonya Couch did not enter a formal plea.

Now, Tonya finds herself inside a Fort Worth jail cell, facing charges of hindering the apprehension of a felon. She is being held on a $1 million bond.

A judge will consider reducing her bond amount at a hearing on Monday.

Meanwhile, Ethan Couch is still in Mexico, where a judge has granted a temporary stay halting deportation proceedings.

Ethan was on probation for killing four people in a 2013 drunken driving accident in Texas when he was just 16 years old.

During his trial, his attorneys cited the now notorious "affluenza" defense, suggesting Ethan was too rich and too spoiled to understand the consequences of his actions.

A warrant for his was issued in mid-December after his probation officer couldn't reach him.

Both Tonya and Ethan Couch were arrested on December 28 near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Investigators say they were caught after Ethan ordered a pizza for delivery to their hideout.
