Innocent man killed while buying snacks at Walgreens in NE Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police are searching for a gunman who killed an innocent man walking into a Walgreens in northeast Houston overnight.

It happened around 1am Sunday morning at the Walgreens on Tidwell near Homestead.

The family has identified the victim as 48-year-old Edward Long.

Officers say Long and his girlfriend stopped by to get some snacks and items. While Long was walking inside, he was shot multiple times and died at the scene.

Detectives say the Long was not the intended target. They say it was a drive-by gang shooting.

Three teens were also shot and went to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officers say the three believe they were the intended targets.

"All the information we have they were the intended targets and our complainant who died here on scene was an innocent bystander, wrong place wrong time," said Detective Robert Klementich with the Houston Police Department.

"Just wanted a snack and got in between crossfire. I lost my baby brother after 48 years," said Rosevelt Long, the victim's brother.

Long's family says he was a good man, who was loved by many. He leaves behind three children.

"He was always a friendly guy. He loved everybody and everybody loved him," said Rosevelt Long.

Police have some leads and are asking for the public's help. If you know anything about the shooting, you're asked to call police.
