Accused husband speaks from jail about love triangle shooting

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The man accused of shooting his wife and killing her lover is now speaking out from jail about the affair, and says he never dreamed he'd be in a situation like this.

Dennis Gibson tearfully described the infidelity by his wife, Jacqueline. Gibson is accused of shooting his wife and killing her alleged lover, 66-year-old Vernon Burger, at their Katy home Friday. Gibson said he found out about this affair a while ago but wanted to keep quiet about it in order to keep his family together.

"I wanted to try and maintain a household for my children and whatever infidelities happened were to maintain a secrecy that my wife was interested in," he said.

Jacqueline Gibson, 68, remains hospitalized in fair condition. Dennis Gibson is held without bond on aggravated assault and murder charges.
