HPD officer hits suspected drunk pedestrian with SUV

HOUSTON -- A Houston police officer on his way to an emergency call hit a pedestrian with his patrol SUV after the pedestrian ran into the road.

The accident happened in the 2800 block of Hilcroft at Unity in southwest Houston around 12:30 early this morning.

The pedestrian was hit in the head by a rear-view mirror.

He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital with face injuries and is expected to recover.

The officer was not injured.

Police are trying to determine if the pedestrian was drunk at the time.
