Two little girls are safe after police say they were found all alone in a trashed motel room in northwest Harris County.

In this Eyewitness News exclusive, we've learned their mother, Unshone Harrison, is in jail charged with two counts of child abandonment after police say she left her 4- and 6-year-old daughters unsupervised for at least six hours, so she could go to work.

Another person staying at the motel called 911 when that person couldn't find the girls' parents. Police arrived at the Crossland Houston Motel on Guhn and the Northwest Freeway around 11 PM Wednesday.

Toni Sosa, another resident, said she and some other adults stayed with the girls while waiting for officers.

A mother faced a judge today after her children were found alone in a northwest Houston motel. Courtney Fischer reports.

"They were hungry, you should have seen them eat. They ate and ate and drank like they were so thirsty," Sosa said.

Sosa said the girls seemed to be in good spirits and told her their mother was at work.

"She (the 6-year-old) had a black-eye and a big bump on her head. That's when all the other mom started getting concerned," Sosa said.

When Harrison got back to the motel, Sosa said she seemed indifferent to everything that was happening.

"She acted like she didn't care. She told police I don't want them, take them away. I've been waiting for someone to come and take them. She said I had to take a second job and leave them alone," Sosa said.

Harrison was supposed to be in court Thursday morning, but didn't show due to a medical issue. Prosecutors still read her charges and new details were revealed about what else was found in the motel room with the girls.

"Inside the hotel room was a knife on the table the kids had access too," read investigators.

Investigators say the room smelled like urine, and old food was all over the room.

"She (Harrison) told police officers she had to go to work and she couldn't watch the kids, couldn't find anyone to watch the kids," prosecutors said. "The mother stated she didn't want the kids and said the police could take them."

Harrison is being held on a $2,000 bond.

Child Protective Services says it currently has custody of the two girls. There will be an emergency hearing Friday in Harris County Family Court 312, where the custody of the children will be determined.
