Houston firefighter arrested on felony theft charges

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston firefighter is facing charged for allegedly stealing a vehicle.

Houston police arrested John Allen Smith, 37, Tuesday night. Investigators say the theft was first reported in 2013, and says they found Smith to be in possession of a stolen vehicle.

The Houston Fire Department confirms Smith is currently employed with the department. He is a 10 year veteran.

Smith is now placed on paid leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
