First responders rescue Tomball residents from flooded homes, streets
TOMBALL, TX (KTRK) -- Tomball police have called for more boats after a number of high water rescues.
Two boats have been deployed so far from Highway 249, just north of Zion Road, where a number of cars are completely submerged.
Deputies say they received a 911 call around 6:15am in the morning from a driver who drove around a barricade and became trapped in the floodwaters.
Emergency officials say no one was found after they deployed a rescue boat borrowed from the Cypress Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Several vehicles were checked, but there was no one inside any of them. There is no word whether that person got out of their vehicle or was able to make it out of the water with their vehicle.
The water is estimated to be at least 10 feet deep, according to officials. The highway was closed at 1pm on Friday as high water began to accumulate on the roadway.
Officers warned drivers not to go around barricades, even those unattended by a patrol vehicle, because the danger of having your car swept off the roadway is possible.
Deputies told Eyewitness News that a high water rescue was underway elsewhere in the Tomball area, where someone had become trapped inside a barn.
Tomball Fire officials say more than 50 high water rescues have already happened since flooding began in the area on Friday.
