Gunfire erupts in traffic between drivers, Miya Shay reports.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- As realtor Terri Guerra left her workout class Tuesday night, she found herself in a unimaginable situation.

Parked at a light southbound on Yale at 610, a shooting unfolded before her eyes.

"It was exactly like the movies it was very unreal," Guerra said. "I see the person get out of the car, and I don't think anything about it, and I hear, pop, pop, pop! I see his gun, and he's shooting at the car right in front of me!"

Houston police say the victim, shot and bleeding, then drove his car several blocks south on Yale, before crashing on 21st Street. The car plowed into a stop sign, right in front of Jim Vu's nail shop.

"From the street it hit it, and stopped right there," said Vu, who added that the accident startled customers.

Next door, Habib Ahmad heard the loud boom from inside his cell phone store.

"Definitely somebody shot him and he was just running for his life I guess," said Ahmad.

The man eventually ended up in the Kroger around the corner. An ambulance and police were called to the scene. He's now recovering at the hospital.

Police say they do not yet know the motive, but added that drugs and a gun were found near the victim's car.

"For a while we see (him) throw the gun here," said Vu, motioning to the side of his store. "Nobody see it, after the car (was) moved, they see the gun."

Police are still searching for the shooter. All they know is he left in a white Chevy Impala going northbound on Yale.

Meanwhile, neighbors in the Heights are worried about their safety.

"We're not supposed to have shootouts in the Heights. It's supposed to be a nice place to live," added Guerra.
