Gun malfunctions when robber tries to shoot delivery driver

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A food service delivery worker is in the hospital after he was knocked unconscious by an armed robber in southwest Houston.

It happened around 10:45pm last night as the worker was making a delivery to the Pizza Hut in the 12,000 block of Bellaire at Aqua.

The worker told police a man walked up to him, pointed a gun and demanded money. The delivery driver put his hands up and told the robber he didn't have anything.

That's when the robber pistol whipped the deliveryman, hitting him twice in the head, knocking him unconscious.

When the man regained consciousness, he heard a "click," but the suspect's gun malfunctioned. The robber then hit the victim a third time in the face. looked through the victim's pockets and then left on foot empty handed.

The armed robber has not been caught.

The victim was taken to West Houston Medical Center and is expected to be okay.
