HOUSTON (KTRK) -- If you or someone you know has an outstanding warrant, it would be a good idea to turn yourself in now.

The Harris County Precinct 4 Constables Office is conducting a warrant roundup on 40,000 outstanding active warrants.

A special task force is focusing solely on locating defendants with outstanding class C misdemeanor and child support warrants. If you are not sure, you should check to see if you have an outstanding warrant.

Assistant Chief Deputy Tim Cannon with Harris County Constable Pct. 4 said, "We're gonna be out and it may not be me, but it'll be an officer who will stop you on a traffic stop. We'll knock on your door. The option won't be there. We'll have to take you to jail. You'll be in handcuffs."

To avoid embarrassment of an officer showing up at your job, you can turn yourself in. Your choices are to pay the fine and court cost or post bond or have your case reset for a new court date. You can seek advice from a legal attorney or you can turn yourself into the constables.

If an officer has to knock on your door and you have an outstanding warrant, you will be arrested and taken to jail.

Sgt. Barton Stephenson with Harris County Constable Pct. 4 said, "We don't want to have to go to your house if we don't have to. We would like you to take care of your obligations."

If you have any questions you can call the warrant division for information at 281-401-6255.

Warrant roundup runs Thursday, October 2 through Saturday, October 4.
