Missing good Samaritan's family hopeful he'll be found
The family of a man who disappeared into the Brazos River while helping a crash victim released a statement about the search

RICHMOND, TX (KTRK) -- A good Samaritan who stopped to help a driver on the side of the road was struck by another vehicle, and hasn't been seen since. Now his family and friends are making a desperate plea to find him.

"This is a loving, God-fearing family who needs their dad and loving husband home. We need to make sure this dad comes home to his children safe and sound," said Anjali Bakshi-Rami, a close family friend.

At about 9pm Sunday, authorities say Puneet Nehra, 43, of Sugar Land, stopped to assist with a crash on the Grand Parkway northbound on the Brazos River bridge. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says while assisting with that crash, Nehra was struck by an intoxicated driver. They believe he was knocked off the bridge and into the river. He hasn't been located.

"Once the deputies began to clear the scene, with the multiple vehicles, arresting the intoxicated driver, they figured out they had more vehicles than they had drivers on scene, that was when they had to reassess what they were doing," explained Major Chad Norvell with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.

Nehra lives just a few blocks away from the accident scene.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, local fire departments and Texas EquuSearch searched the murky water Monday. The Houston Police Department Dive Team will join the search Tuesday morning.

"Please, please come forward. We need the public's help," added Bakshi-Rami asking for information.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Detective Williams of the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office at 281-341-3839.
