HIGHLANDS, TX (KTRK) -- A tragic accident involving a Highland firefighter sent a little girl to the hospital Thursday night.

The Highland fire chief says one of his firefighters hit a child in his first responder vehicle.

Witnesses say the five year-year old darted in the street while running with her uncle.

"I heard a thump. And I heard the words, 'Oh my God!' And I looked over and I seen that girl on the ground. She was all bloody and bruised," witness Raul Guerra said.

The little girl suffered a head injury. Right now, her condition is not known.

No charges have been filed at this hour.
