Former Houston nurse on trial for allegedly poisoning daughter

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The trial is underway for the pediatric nurse charged with poisoning her young daughter.

Detectives believe Katie Ripstra deliberately used salt over the course of two years to make her four-year-old daughter sick. The girl eventually had a brain injury from all the sodium.

The child has been in foster care for the past two years.
