PASADENA, TX (KTRK) -- One day after a large warehouse fire, crews continue to put out hot spots, hoping to prevent re-ignition. Meanwhile, the investigation continues into what caused flames to race through a large warehouse in South Houston Tuesday afternoon, destroying a number of businesses housed inside. Investigators say no one was injured and everyone got out safely.

Just before noon, firefighters were called to Perez near Spencer Highway. Dozens of firefighters with crews from South Houston, Pasadena and Houston fire departments worked together to douse the flames. They were forced to take an outside attack, because it was too dangerous to get inside. Some of the commercial tenants include a construction materials company, a resale shop and a furniture store. The inventory inside proved to be an added hardship for fire crews, as it only added fuel the fire.

Javier Gallegos Chao has owned Don Barato Bazaar and Furniture for nearly 30 years. He doesn't carry insurance, he says, and lost everything in the fire. But he's thankful that he, his wife and employees all got out alive.

"To me it's important to be alive and to think about my future," he said.
