Bianca Hernandez hurried home to her husband and daughter when he called to tell her an apartment building at their complex, the Belmont LaFontaine, was going up in flames.

"I just thought I need to get home. Anything could have happened, anything could have happened to them," said Hernandez whose apartment was not involved.

There were no injuries, but Houston firefighters pulled two alarms on the fire which ruined at least 16 units at the complex in west Houston just before 9:00pm last night.

When firefighters arrived, they say there was already heavy smoke, and fire was eating up the building located at 10500 Valley Forge.

Firefighters tell us the fire started in an upstairs unit and quickly spread to other apartments and an adjoining building. Many people were calling 911, including Jeremy Breedlove's family.

"All you see was like windows exploding and everything," said Breedlove, whose dad called 911.

The Houston Fire Department Arson Bureau will investigate the cause of the fire. The Red Cross was there to assist any residents who were forced out of their homes.
