Family looking for driver in deadly hit-and-run, Elissa Rivas reports.

HARRIS COUNTY (KTRK) -- The loudest noise around the neighborhood off Westgard in northeast Harris County is usually the train, which runs parallel to nearby Highway 90.

That changed Sunday night when a driver hit a man while he was jogging.

Now in that spot, there is a simple sign with a plea to find the person behind the wheel when Lendy Melton was hit and killed Sunday night. Melton was jogging a quarter mile from his home.

Lendy's son and daughter, Chris and Hannah, say the worst part is that the person who hit him, didn't stop to help him.

"I couldn't come to thoughts or believe that someone would leave a man on the ground and just take off," said Hannah Bennett.

However, that is exactly what Harris County Sheriff investigators believe happened to Melton. Investigators say the suspect vehicle is a 2006 to 2013 four-door Chevrolet Impala, silver or gray in color, with right rear damage.

The family was already having a rough year, losing their mom, Pamela, to leukemia in January.

"When we lost my mom it was expected, this was not expected," said Chris Melton. "Somebody hit somebody and left them in a ditch, knowing they were dying."

Perhaps no one will hurt more than eight-year-old Destiny Melton. She is the youngest sibling -- the one that will grow up without either parent.

"He was a really good Dad. I miss him though, I really miss him," said Destiny.
