HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Gunmen have been trying to communicate with the family of a man whom they pistol-whipped and robbed of his work van Friday morning.

"I don't know where the van at," reads one text to Velma Griffin.

The robbery happened in the 6400 block of Myrtle near Griggs in southeast Houston.

"When he said I have no money, they started to hit him in the forehead with a gun," Griffin said.

Her husband, Bill, was hit in the head three times with a gun before the crooks stole his van with thousands of dollars worth of tools inside as well as his cell phone.

"He thought they were going to shoot him," Griffin said.

Griffin says several family members, including her daughters, have gotten either phone calls or texts from her husband's stolen phone.

Houston Police are investigating.
