Ex-father-in-law of Philly kidnapping suspect speaks out
The ex-father-in-law of the man accused of abducting a woman in Philly opens up about the man's turbulent relationship with his daughter

SUGAR LAND, TX (KTRK) -- The former father-in-law of accused serial kidnapper Delvin Barnes opened up about his daughter's violent relationship with Barnes.

"He is pure evil," said the father-in-law, who we're identifying only as Anthony. "You get this thing inside of you when you meet somebody for the first time; most of the time you can tell whether a person is OK or not OK. That's what I got with him. Something ain't right with him."

Police said Barnes was seen on surveillance video kidnapping Carleesha Gaither while she was walking on a sidewalk at night. The video shows Gaither being shoved and pushed into a vehicle. She was missing for days until police said they finally rescued her from Barnes' car Wednesday night. The kidnapping captivated the entire nation.

"I've been around a long time and that's the first time I've actually seen kidnapping on video," said Philadelphia PD Charles Ramsey.

Barnes is also accused of kidnapping a teenager in Virginia. Police said that victim was kidnapped and held for days at a secluded home doused with gas and chlorine before she escaped her abductor.

Anthony, who now lives in Sugar Land, said Barnes did almost the same thing to his daughter years ago. After a week of marriage, Anthony said Barnes attacked his daughter. She got a restraining order, but Barnes didn't go away.

"He broke into her house. And he hid in the closet," said Anthony. "He still hid, while she got home. Got comfortable, he waited a couple more hours, and then he jumped out on her."

Court papers reveal Barnes beat his then wife and when Anthony came to rescue her, he was assaulted too.

"I wanted to kill him. I wanted to kill him," said Anthony.

Barnes was arrested, convicted and served jail time for assault. But Anthony said it was not enough. He was justice for his daughter was lost.

"This is another chance for justice to be done, and I hope they don't let him go. I hope they give him what he deserves," said Anthony.

Anthony said the latest alleged abduction is haunting. He said he knew Barnes would strike again, but never this way. His message to Barnes:

"I hope you rot in hell," said Anthony.

Barnes is being extradited to Virginia Thursday to face charges related to that 16-year-old Virginia teen's abduction.
