RANDOLPH COUNTY, IN (KTRK) --A man is in jail after police say he left his elderly mother lying in her own filth for months in a home that the health department has deemed 'unfit for human occupancy.'
Police in Randolph County made the gruesome discovery Sunday night when a man called 911 for help.
Phillip Weimer, 54, told Investigators that he never called for help for his mother, because he didn't think she would live very long.
Sunday night Weimer called 911, concerned about his heart, but when a Lynn Police Officer and firefighter arrived at the home, they became more concerned about the care he was giving his parents.
Police say they found Weimer's mother, Joyce, partially clothed and lying on a chair with a rack on top of her. She told them she had been sitting there for almost three months.
A nurse also found large amounts of feces, worms and open sores on her body.
Weimer told investigators that it was his mother's choice to stay in the chair, his mother did agree, saying she wanted to die in her own home.
The health department deemed their home unfit for humans after they discovered signs of hoarding, rodent droppings and insects.
Weimer's father was also in the home. He was taken to the hospital for observation and is now being cared for by another relative.
Animal control agents also removed five dogs from the home.
WRTV reports that Weimer is charged with felony neglect of a dependent.
