HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Several Houston police officers today surprised lots of drivers with a surprise during traffic stops. The officers played Secret Santa with money given tot eh police department by an anonymous donor.

Officers started by pulling over drivers for minor traffic offenses such as not wearing a seat belt or a broken taillight. Instead of giving them a ticket, the officers let them off with a warning then gave them a crisp $100 bill.

One officer told a driver, "A donor has given money to the police department. We're gonna give you some money, hopefully that'll help brighten up your spirits a little bit."

The drivers were shocked at getting the holiday cash. Bill Strickley was one of the drivers pulled over today.

"It went from being late to thinking I was going to get a ticket to actually getting an early Christmas present. I really appreciate that," said driver Bill Strickley.

The officers say they are happy to be helping out the Secret Santa. Police gave out $100 bills to 100 drivers today.

The Secret Santa donated $10,000 to the Houston police Department. The money is meant to help people most in need during Christmas. Officers will hand out the private donation to motorists in various Houston communities.
