SOUTH HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) -- Police say a driver was speeding when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and slammed into a car dealership in South Houston overnight.

It happened at JMS Auto Sales on Spencer Highway and 4th Street.

The car slammed into the parking lot full of cars, damaging at least seven vehicles before hitting a utility pole.

The driver survived the crash and ran away. Police caught up with him and he's now in the hospital with a broken rib. Charges against him are pending.

Damage assessments will be in the tens of thousands of dollars.
