HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man has been charged in a deadly weekend wreck that killed a woman and a young girl.
Victor Manuel Garcia, 48, is charged with intoxication manslaughter.
Police say Garcia was driving a black Dodge Durango northbound in the southbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway, when he reportedly sideswiped a black Scion TC before hitting a white Chevrolet Tahoe head-on. The Tahoe was then struck again by a blue Honda CRV. The driver of the Scion lost control and was struck head-on by a white Chevrolet Impala.
Nearly a dozen people were taken to area hospitals for treatment following the five-vehicle crash. Corina Benitez-Gomez, 34, was taken to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where she was pronounced dead. A 3-year-old girl identified as Dayana Padron died Monday at the hospital.
Garcia was treated at an area hospital and then transported to jail.
