KATY, TX (KTRK) -- A dog helped its family escape injury after flames engulfed a home in Katy area.

The fire broke out around 12:49am at a home on Crested Lark Court and Lamplight Trail.

Firefighters say they arrived to find flames coming from the two-story brick home.
