HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Former President George H.W. Bush's condition has improved to the point that doctors have begun discussing dates for his discharge, according to his spokesperson.

He will remain at the Houston Methodist Hospital through the weekend for further observation.

Bush was transported to the hospital after he experienced shortness of breath on Christmas Eve. The oldest living president is in Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. He is said to be in the hospital only as a precaution.

The situation is very different from two years ago when the now 90-year-old was in the hospital with a fever that would not go down.
