A man was shot and arrested after nearly running over a deputy in north Houston, police said.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- We're learning new details this morning about a deputy-involved shooting in north Harris County.

The deputy was responding to an unrelated call about a stolen vehicle when he was flagged down by two people.

A woman at the Sabo Domingo flea market on Airline allegedly told the deputy her significant other had hit her several times during a fight.

When the man was found down the road inside a silver Jeep, the suspect allegedly tried to run over the deputy.

The deputy opened fire, hitting the Jeep a couple of times on the driver's side.

The driver took off, but was arrested by Houston police on West Gulf Bank a short time later.

The suspect was shot twice, once in the buttocks and in the lower leg, and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition.

He faces charges of aggravated assault on a peace officer, but may also be charged with assault on a family member.

His alleged victim was treated by EMS at the scene for her injuries.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave according to Harris County Sheriff's Office policy as they investigate the shooting.
