Houston police say the driver of a pickup truck was under the influence when he drove around a traffic barrier and hit a deputy

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police say, 19-year-old Christopher Baker was under the influence when he drove around a traffic barrier and hit a deputy.

The incident happened around 11pm on Murworth and Lantern Point near NRG Park.

Police say, Baker went around a barrier on the 8400 block of Lantern Point Drive. At least two Harris County Sheriff's deputies working traffic control followed after him. The truck eventually stopped, but the driver tried again to leave.

"The deputy was caught in the vehicle, and after a short distance, the deputy fell off the car and was actually was run over by the suspect's vehicle," said Houston police Sgt. Tim Trometer.

The deputy was sent to Ben Taub for treatment and she is expected to make a full recovery. Police say Baker continued to struggle with another deputy as he was pulled from his vehicle. Baker is charged with DWI second offense, Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant, Assault Bodily Injury Against Public Servant.
