Baytown police identify Harris County Pct. 3 Asst. Chief Deputy Clint Greenwood as victim in deadly shooting.

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) -- Baytown Crime Stoppers, the FBI, the Office of the Governor's Criminal Justice Division and a concerned citizen are offering a combined reward of $65,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the person or persons involved in the murder of Assistant Chief Deputy Clint Greenwood.

Baytown police identified Harris County Precinct 3 Asst. Chief Deputy Clint Greenwood, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, as the victim in this morning's shooting.

There was no word on the suspect, who is presumed to still be on the run after the shooting at 7 a.m. There was no description given of the shooter.

Authorities tell reporter Jeff Ehling the shooting happened at the back of the courthouse. Investigators said Greenwood was shot in the neck and radioed for help, reportedly saying "I'm bleeding out."

Another deputy nearby rushed to his aid, applying pressure to Greenwood's neck. They were able to get him help, flying him via Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital, but sadly, he has died of his injuries.

Baytown police said it was not clear if Greenwood was targeted or the circumstances behind the shooting. They did not release any further information about the shooter.

The courthouse and neighboring Sterling High School were placed on lockdown, in addition to several businesses in the area.

Also within close proximity of the shooting scene is a post office and the Harris County Clerk's office.

Witnesses tell ABC13 there were at least 15 patrol cruisers in the area of the shooting after the shots rang out.

The search is now on for the person who opened fire on the deputy constable. Deputies are using a chopper and officers on the ground to find the suspect.

Expressions of hope and prayers were posted on Twitter throughout the morning.

At Memorial Hermann Hospital, District Attorney Kim Ogg was briefed on the situation.

Reporter Foti Kallergis described how somber the scene was as Greenwood's family arrived and learned the news of his death.

Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement about Greenwood:

"My heart goes out to the family and friends of Assistant Chief Deputy Greenwood and the Harris County law enforcement community in the wake of this heinous murder. Texas is taking action to strengthen penalties for those brazen enough to commit crimes against law enforcement, and we will send a message that such vile acts will not be tolerated in the Lone Star State. I am confident the perpetrator of this despicable act will be apprehended and that the murderer will be met with swift justice."
