Deputy accused of selling stolen drugs faces more charges

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy faces more allegations after already being accused of selling stolen drugs while on duty.

Christopher Ellis has been charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver and has been suspended from the department indefinitely. On Monday, he was the subject of a sting and arrested in northwest Harris County for selling crack cocaine and pain pills while on duty to an undercover officer for $1,000. Investigators were working off a tip he would get drugs by stealing them from dealers while on the job and in uniform.

Mike Alexander of northwest Harris County contacted Eyewitness News saying Ellis stole prescription medication from him during his arrest for DWI and possession of marijuana in May. He says when he went to recover his prescribed pain pills after bonding out of jail, he was told they weren't there.

"When he took me to the holding area, he had the medicine but never turned it in. He took it. He took it," Alexander said.

Alexander says he called the sheriff's office several times to follow-up and eventually complained but he felt no one listened. Ellis' arrest is like vindication for him.

"I wasn't shocked at all because basically everything that's done in the dark, comes to light," Alexander said.

His attorney Rodney Brown believes his case should be dismissed.

"It's kind of hard to prosecute if you have a corrupt officer," Brown said.

Alexander says the internal Affairs Division of the Harris County Sheriff's Office has now contacted him. They are also looking for more potential victims and anyone with information is asked to call IAD at 713-755-6517.

Meanwhile, Ellis remains in jail in lieu of $120,000 bond.
