PORTER, TX (KTRK) -- A teenager was arrested Sunday night after investigators say she slammed a car into other vehicles in a Walmart parking lot, then got out and ran, while carrying an infant.

It started around 7pm at the store in Porter. According to investigators, Walmart's loss prevention officers noticed three females trying to shoplift. When they left the store, the employees gave chase.

Investigators say the females ran towards a 2012 Chrysler 200 parked in a handicapped space. They say a 15-year-old female who was waiting in the car jumped behind the wheel, throwing it into reverse and hitting a parked car, then putting it in drive and hitting two other vehicles.

According to deputies, her three friends who were being chased kept on running toward the intersection of 59 and FM 1314.

The teen in the vehicle then reportedly jumped out and tried to flee on foot. A witness noticed she was carrying an infant while trying to get away.

The teen with the infant was caught and arrested. She's charged with abandon/endangering a child and criminal negligence.

The three shoplifting suspects got away.

It turns out the infant was the teen's younger sister and the vehicle she was in belonged to her grandmother. Her father came to the scene and took custody of the infant.
