A Wake County teacher has been arrested for making meth in her home

ZEBULON, NC -- A North Carolina teacher and her husband face charges after deputies allegedly found a methamphetamine lab in their home.

Lori Riley Whitley, 38, and her husband, Gary Nelson Whitley Jr., 41, both of the 100-block of Big Branch Court in Zebulon, were arrested after a search warrant was served at the residence early Friday morning.

An 8 year-old child was also found in the home. The child was turned over to the custody of the Department of Social Services.

The couple is looking at a combined total of a dozen charges - including manufacturing methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle or dwelling for a controlled substance, and child abuse.

A Wake County Public Schools spokesperson said Lori Whitley has been a third grade teacher at Wendell Elementary School since 2002. She's been suspended with pay. The school district is conducting its own investigation.

Bond for Gary Whitley was set at $207,500. Lori Whitley was incarcerated under a $157,500 bond.
