HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Deputies say one person was shot Tuesday evening during an attempted carjacking at a northwest Harris County intersection, but the suspects' crime spree didn't start or end there.

Around 6:15pm, four suspects carjacked the driver of a maroon Tahoe in the Heights. About 45 minutes later, the suspects pulled up behind a black truck at the intersection of Fairbanks North Houston and West Little York.

One of the suspects got out and tapped the driver's window, demanding he get out. When the driver refused, the suspect shot through the door, hitting him in the face.

"I don't think they knew the victim. I think that they were possibly just getting ready to switch cars," said Sgt. Eric Batton with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The suspects then took off the in Tahoe, sparking a high-speed car chase with Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies. The chase ended when the SUV collided with an 18-wheeler on FM 529 and Fairview.

Two suspects became pinned after the crash and were transported via LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital. A third was transported to a hospital by ground, while the fourth was arrested at the scene.

The driver of the black truck was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital; we're told he was alert and talking. A female passenger in his truck was not injured.
