HOUSTON -- A chase suspect charged with murder appeared before a judge today in Montgomery County.

The chase led to a crash which killed Patton Village police officer Sgt. Stacey Baumgartner and 11-year-old Adhan Hilario earlier this month.

Shackled and in a jumpsuit, Garrett William Nee, 29, approached the bench.

Prosecutors say Nee needs a lawyer. He will likely be assigned one later today, but until then, the case can't move forward. After 10 minutes with the judge, Nee was finished in court.

Hilario was laid to rest yesterday. Hilario's family and friends said goodbye to him at a church service in Conroe.

Hilario and a Patton Village police officer were killed during a chase on Father's Day.

Investigators say Baumgartner chased Nee through a red light and collided with Hilario's car.

Nee showed no emotion in court today...as he waits for what's next in his case.

Nee is being held on a $1.3 million bond. He's been charged with intoxicated manslaughter and six counts of intoxicated assault.
