Daughter charged in mom's stabbing in N Houston
A woman was found dead from an apparent stabbing attack at her home on Airline Sunday morning, according to Houston police.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Family members are mourning a mother who was allegedly killed by her own daughter, a murder that has stunned relatives because it seemingly "came out of the blue." The small house where the two women lived for only a few months is now home to a small memorial where the mother died.

"We don't know what happened, why it happened. There's still a lot of questions that need to be answered and asked," Hilaria Sigala said. She is Virginia Gonzales' sister and Veronica Gonzales' aunt.

Daughter arrested in mom's stabbing in N Houston.

Relatives gathered in the mobile home park on Airline, near Tidwell, Sunday night as they were trying to come to grips with what happened. Police found Virginia Gonzales' body lying in the doorway and investigators say Veronica Gonzales confessed to a friend that she had stabbed her mother.

"It's hard to believe something like this could happen to our family, especially to the person that my aunt was, she never deserved it," Modesta Mendez said.

Veronica Gonzales has a history of mental illness, but no violent encounters with her mother before, Mendez said.

The family is now struggling with the heartbreak of losing Virginia, and the pain of knowing that Veronica is allegedly the reason why.

"Yes, we love her and that won't change but...we will never forget," Sigala said.

Veronica was charged with murder and her bond was set at $50,000. Investigators at the scene early Sunday found a kitchen knife near the scene. The victim had multiple stab wounds to her face and torso.
