Crying infant found alone with murdered parents in SW Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A baby girl was found crying next to the bodies of her parents, who were found murdered in their southwest Houston apartment complex.

Children's Protective Services officials say the murdered couple's infant turns five months old Friday. Right now she's in foster care as police continue trying to figure out who killed her parents.

At the Pavillion Place apartments on Renwick, it's a mysterious double murder that has some tenants pretty worried. One woman, who's too afraid to give her name, calls the killing of a young married couple pretty bad. She says everyone's really scared.

Neighbors are scared learning police have identified Melissa Ann Guerra, 23, and her husband Jose Salinas, 23, as the victims found dead in a unit at the complex, with their crying infant girl left near their bodies.

Tenants say they didn't hear a commotion near the young couple's home. But police say it was a neighbor passing by who heard the baby's constant cry and discovered the child and gruesome murder scene behind a cracked apartment door.

Children's Protective Services spokesperson Estella Olguin said, "She's OK. You know, obviously you know it's too soon to tell if she's going to suffer from nightmares or anything like that."

Olguin says an emergency custody hearing for the infant was held Thursday morning. She'll stay in foster care.

"Relatives are starting to call us, both on mom's side and dad's side of the family," Olguin said. "So it's possible that we might be able to find some appropriate and protective relatives to hand the baby over."

Police are releasing sketches of two persons of interest that they're hoping could generate some leads into the double murder.

The first suspected gunman is described as having a light complexion, smooth cut afro, baby-ish face and was wearing a pink or orange t-shirt. Police say the second suspect has a dark complexion, a black and curly twist hairstyle. Both men are described as being in their late teens to early 20s.
