Burglars try to steal safe during break-in
Burglars attempted to steal a safe when they broke into a Montrose bar early Monday morning.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Two crooks broke into a Montrose bar overnight and took aim at the safe.

In surveillance video provided to Eyewitness News, you can see the duo push the huge safe through the hall and out of the building.

However, they left the safe in the middle of the street.

The incident happened just after 6:00am at Ripcord. The bar's assistant manager, Tyler Johnson, described what he saw when he arrived on scene.

"I get there and make my way around the corner," said Johnson. "All I see is the safe sitting 30 feet from the door with three patrol officers already there."

Heavy damage to the safe showed how the criminals tried busting it open.

Ripcord Owner Bradley Spratt said that, in the bar's 35-year history, they've never seen a burglary.

"I take it personal," said Spratt. "We just work so hard to have a bar for the community."

If you recognize the men in the video, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
