Couple chases suspect in attempted car theft in west Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Victims of an attempted car theft chased down the thief overnight in west Houston.

it happened on Taft and Fairview just west of the Loop around 1pm.

A man and woman were leaving a bar when they saw a man trying to break into their car. Before they could catch him, he drove off in a white Chevy Impala. The couple got into their car and chased him. They then flagged down authorities, who chased the man to Hyde Park and Helena, where he got out and ran.

He jumped some fences, and got away.
