Colorado man killed in Conroe ATV accident
A 23-year-old man lost his life while riding at the Bel-Ray Action Sports Park

CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- A young man visiting family from Colorado died Monday afternoon in an ATV accident at a Conroe motorsports park.

Conroe police officers were called around 4:30pm to the Bel-Ray Sports Action Park on I-45 near F.M. 148.

According to Sgt. Dorcy Riddle, "A.J." Allen Martin Jeffrey Gilbert was doing a jump on the dirt track when he landed wrong causing the back end of his ATV to flip over the front. It landed on top of him and police say he died instantly.

In a statement on the 3 Palms Action Sports Park Facebook page, staff wrote:

"It is with heavy hearts that we share the news with our community... Out of respect for the family of this young man, we will not release his name or any additional details surrounding his untimely death. Our hearts go out to his family and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers."

Police say Gilbert, who's from Colorado but had been staying with family in the area, was wearing a helmet and other required safety gear.

The park spans more than 200 acres and features facilities for several action sports. Its website repeatedly notes the danger and management requires a waiver before participating on the grounds.
