HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office is receiving an outpouring of support from our area and around the world following the tragic shooting Friday night of Deputy Darren Goforth.

Last night, the sheriff's office posted to Facebook a letter of encouragement it received, written by children. With the letter, the sheriff's office added, "Because sometimes a handwritten note from a child is all it takes to keep a deputy's head up during a tragedy."

Deputy Goforth was pumping gas at a northwest Harris County gas station when he was fatally shot. Shannon J. Miles was arrested the following day and is now charged with capital murder.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 11am at Second Baptist Church on Voss Road.
