HOUSTON (KTRK) -- In the 13 Investigates office, we rely on Freedom of Information laws all the time. Texas has a pretty good one. It's pretty clear right in the law that, "The people .. do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created."
It's not always that easy to get public records though. As we celebrate Independence Day, we want to thank agencies who routinely hand over public documents, but also remind a few to keep aiming for more disclosure.
