The child's mother is not facing any charges, but the woman who spotted the baby wants more done

BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- According to Baytown police, a mother left her five-month-old baby girl inside a truck, in the parking lot of a children's store. A customer pulled the baby from the truck, which was unlocked with windows partially down. Now, that Good Samaritan is on a crusade to get what she calls justice for the baby girl.

Late Sunday afternoon, Kristin Wright made a shocking discovery.

"Where she was parked, there was no shade, no nothing."

Wright says she found a baby girl, covered in sweat, and crying.

"She had a head full of hair and it was all matted down with sweat, she was so drenched."

Store employees called out for someone to claim the baby and no one did.

"When no one did anything, I was like, I am going to go get the baby out."

Store employees called the police and only then did the mother walk outside to her baby. The store owner showed Eyewitness News surveillance video of the time before the baby was discovered. It shows the mother inside the store for about 20 minutes.

Employee MacKenzie Mayfield said, "The lady noticed that there were people in her car, so she went out there. She wasn't emotional, she wasn't crying at all."

Police gave the baby back to the woman, who then re-entered the store to finish shopping. She can be seen in video with her baby and the officer. We have concealed the mother's identity because the she has not been charged with a crime.

Wright asked, "What if it was her intent to harm that baby, and she just left it out there on purpose? No one knows and they just let her take that baby home."

That is not acceptable to Wright, who took to social media to get her point across, contacting Eyewitness News and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

After our calls and Wright's emails, we learned the district attorney's office is opening its own investigation into the case.
