HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police say a man told them he was high when he injured his own baby and killed his dog in a bizarre scene in southwest Houston.
At about 10am, police were called to a home in the 3700 block of Westhampton near Fleetwell. A 16-month-old boy suffered a deep gash on his forehead, and cuts to his face and arm. Acting erratically and shaking violently, police had to tie the ankles of the baby's father together.
Neighbor Kenneth Wallace says he heard screaming and called 911 for help. "The man was cradling the baby... in a pool of blood all in his chest, pulled his arms loose and my sister took the baby."
Caryn Patton took the baby in her arms. "The baby stopped breathing. Started calling on God."
The toddler was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital by ambulance.
Police say a dog at the home was stabbed to death.
The baby's father was taken into custody. Police say he told them he was high on weed at the time.
