SPLENDORA, TX (KTRK) -- Authorities in Montgomery County are lashing out at Facebook, alleging the social networking site is not cooperating with an investigation of threats posted on the site.

Officials say the threats targeting young people in Splendora were posted just yesterday.

It could be a prank. But, it could also be something very serious. Officials say they could easily track down the person or persons responsible with Facebook's help but they say for some reason, the social networking site is not offering any assistance.

"Unfortunately, despite repeated requests from local law enforcement, Facebook has refused to provide any information that might lead us to determine who the individual is that is responsible for making these threats," said First Assistant District Attorney for Montgomery County, Phil Grant. "So, we feel it's important in today's day and age to take all of these threats seriously and let the local people know in Splendora that we do have some threats out there, targeting people in their area."

We sent an email to Facebook asking for a response to the allegations, but so far we have not heard back from the social media site.
